The\u00a0primary reasons for this is the open source development tools of the Atmel AVR microcontrollers\u00a0and the novice friendly nature of Arduino. This is the path that has chosen me.<\/p>\n<p>I had been using the Arduino hardware and software to get my feet wet, but hadn&#8217;t really delved\u00a0into &#8220;real&#8221; AVR C development.<\/p>\n<p>I came across <a title=\"Project Ouroboros\" href=\"http:\/\/jethomson.wordpress.com\/2011\/08\/18\/project-ouroboros-reflashing-a-betemcu-usbasp-programmer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Project Ouroborus<\/a> , that involved a cheap (&lt; $10 USD) device that could easily be\u00a0re-purposed\u00a0for AVR and Arduino development. This is the inspiration for Project Ten Pin (10Pin).<\/p>\n<p>This seemed like a perfect avenue for me to start to jump off into the actual AVR hardware instead\u00a0of hiding behind the skirt of the Arduino environment.
